Bottom fishing refers to the most common way of fishing techniques, used to catch fish that are found near the sea floor. It is one of the easiest methods to learn to fish and targets reef fishes in the shallow waters in the Gulf and Bay.
What we use for bottom fishing is a certain “rig” or lure that will take your bait to the bottom and lure in the fish there. This bait needs to look appetizing to these type of fish such as snapper and grouper.
As the captain, my job is to use my expertise in drifting and anchoring tactics to be able to keep your bait in the right place at the right time. This can be difficult with changing currents or rocky bottoms that can cut your line. You might have heard about all kinds of rigs, leaders, sinkers, circle hooks…. don’t let this confuse you. I educate you as we fish. This will help you understand the art of fishing while giving you the knowledge of how certain fish react to certain types of bait.
